About the Role
This position serves as a pivotal engineering resource for Vistra’s fossil generation fleet, responsible for the full lifecycle of capital and major maintenance projects. You will partner with plant personnel, fleet engineering, operations, and external partners to identify, develop, and execute projects that enhance fleet reliability, safety, and commercial capability.
Your day-to-day involves translating asset operating history and industry experience into actionable project scopes. You will manage everything from conceptual design and cost estimation to bid specification development and contractor coordination. Emphasis is placed on mechanical rotating equipment, plant control systems, and heavy-duty steam valves. Whether supporting fleet-significant upgrades like gas turbine conversions or managing standardized overhauls, you will ensure projects align with the Project Life Cycle Procedure and Long-Range Plan processes.
This role requires significant field engagement, with up to 50% travel to support site visits, outage planning, and execution across the fleet.

- check_circlePrepare bid packages, technical specifications, and project documentation for gas turbines, steam turbines, and control systems
- check_circleCoordinate with internal stakeholders, external engineering firms, contractors, and OEMs for project execution
- check_circleDevelop project schedules incorporating regulatory, safety, environmental requirements, and long-lead equipment timing
- check_circleCreate and maintain standardized playbooks, templates, and fleet standards for recurring work across sites
- check_circleInitiate, develop, manage, and execute capital and major maintenance projects for the fossil generation fleet
- check_circleCommunicate project status, risks, financial justifications, and lessons learned to stakeholders and leadership
Requirements
- verified8+ years of related experience in project engineering, project development, project execution, major maintenance, or capital project management in power generation or similar heavy industrial environments
- verifiedBachelor of Science in an engineering field relevant to the power generation industry, such as mechanical, electrical, civil, or similar, from an ABET-accredited university OR a licensed professional engineer (within the U.S.)
- verifiedProficiency with Microsoft Office and standard estimating, scheduling, and project management tools
Nice to Have
Preferred technical knowledge or experience in mechanical rotating equipment (including gas turbines, steam turbines, pumps, and fans), plant control systems, or heavy-duty steam valves.
