The Program Specialist-Outdoor Living Skills is a seasonal AmeriCorps position dedicated to developing and implementing the Adventure Based Learning Program at Camp Whitcomb/Mason. This role centers on guiding youth through high and low ropes courses, fostering resilience and teamwork through experiential education.
As an AmeriCorps member, you will serve as a positive role model, providing safe supervision during high-risk activities such as archery, waterfront programs, and challenge courses. Your day-to-day involves facilitating outdoor living skills and environmental education activities using a natural and logical progression, ensuring all programming is developmentally appropriate for campers ages 7-14. You will be responsible for maintaining equipment safety, managing group dynamics, and acting as a first responder in emergencies.
This position is part of the National Service program. Members agree to complete a fixed term of service supporting Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee programming. In return, members receive a set living allowance and, upon successful completion of the term, are eligible for a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. Compensation for AmeriCorps positions is non-negotiable and varies based on the term of service. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.; sponsorship for employment visas is not available. The selection process requires proof of citizenship, a background check including fingerprint screening, and a commitment to the service environment. Candidates should be prepared to live in a camp setting for the duration of the term.
This is a seasonal position running from June 8 to August 21. Youth programming takes place Monday through Friday, with irregular hours and daily exposure to outdoor elements including sun, heat, and wildlife.
