The Program Specialist - Nature serves as the steward of the Nature Program at Camp Whitcomb during the summer season. This role is dedicated to fostering a deep connection between youth and the natural world through a dedicated nature center and a variety of outdoor learning experiences. The position is designed for individuals passionate about environmental education who are ready to guide campers in developing outdoor living skills and environmental awareness.
As an AmeriCorps member with Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, you will commit to a term of National Service. In exchange for your dedication to supporting youth programming, you will receive a set living allowance. Upon successful completion of your term, you will be eligible for a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award.
Your days will be filled with facilitating experiential education activities that utilize diverse land types and resources, including nets, animal mounts, furs, tracks, and magnifying glasses. You will act as a positive role model and supervisor across all camp areas, ensuring the safety and engagement of youth during high-risk activities like pool, waterfront, and archery programs. Beyond programming, you will manage the nature center's inventory, maintain a clean and orderly environment, and assist with the seasonal setup and teardown of the camp, which may involve landscaping and pre-camp cleaning.
This is a seasonal position running from June 8 to August 21, with youth programming scheduled Monday through Friday. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S., as sponsorship for employment visas is not available. Please note that compensation for this AmeriCorps position is non-negotiable and consists of a fixed living allowance and education award; specific amounts can be found on the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee website.
