About the Role

The Production Analyst serves as a critical bridge between raw data and strategic decision-making for SM Energy's oil and gas assets. Working both independently and within cross-functional teams, this role provides advanced analytical support to Production Engineering and Operations. The position is designed to transform complex datasets into actionable insights that drive financial and operational efficiency.

In this capacity, you will develop and maintain the workflows and databases that underpin the department's data integrity. Your day-to-day involves monitoring production trends, tracking variances against forecasts, and managing downtime events to identify root causes. You will act as a key partner to engineers and project managers, delivering the KPI reporting and cost engineering services necessary to refine estimating assumptions and optimize capital project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • check_circleMonitor and analyze production trends across assets to identify variances from forecasts
  • check_circleDevelop and maintain production downtime tracking systems to categorize and report events
  • check_circleSupport production forecasting by assembling and validating data from internal and third-party sources
  • check_circleGenerate monthly and ad-hoc production reports to ensure data accuracy and performance tracking
  • check_circleFacilitate schedule tracking and performance KPI metrics for capital and production projects
  • check_circleDevelop and maintain dashboards in Power BI or Spotfire to visualize operational and financial performance
  • check_circleApply cost engineering principles including budgeting, forecasting, and earned value systems
  • check_circleManage AFE creation and review processes for the Production Engineering team
  • check_circleAssist in explaining budget variances and support accrual updates at required company cadence
  • check_circleBuild and maintain company databases and processes for production staff analysis
  • check_circleDevelop improved processes and tools to support department responsibilities and optimize workflows
  • check_circleManage internal project controls processes for all areas of project execution and reporting

Requirements
