About the Naval Nuclear Laboratory

Working at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) fosters a deep sense of pride in belonging to an organization built on the core values of Trust, Empowerment, and Collaboration. For nearly 70 years, NNL has been a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. We develop advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provide critical technical support, and train world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the U.S. Navy's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets.

Operated for the U.S. Department of Energy by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), our nearly 8,000 engineers, scientists, technicians, and support personnel work across four DOE facilities and various shipyards. We rely on the dedication and innovation of our team to maintain the safety and reliability of our nation's naval nuclear reactors.

About the Role

As the Site Asbestos Coordinator at the Knolls Laboratory in Niskayuna, NY, you will lead the Asbestos Program, serving as the primary expert for resolving technical issues related to asbestos compliance. This role is vital to ensuring our adherence to safety and legal standards while supporting the broader mission of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.

In this position, you will act as the certifying official for Asbestos Building Inspectors (ABIs) and Asbestos Competent Persons, owning the continuing training program and maintaining accurate qualification records. You will manage the routine asbestos air sampling plan and serve as the point of contact for all NESHAP-related inquiries regarding renovation or demolition work, preparing and submitting necessary regulatory notifications to the EPA. Additionally, you will collaborate with other Site Asbestos Coordinators to share learning and identify areas for improvement, ensuring the highest standards of safety and compliance across the site.

Hiring Process & Application

Interested candidates should apply today to join our team. Please note that all candidates must be U.S. citizens. Selected applicants will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. As a government contractor, FMP maintains a drug-free workplace and workforce; all candidates must pass a drug test in compliance with company policy and 10 CFR 707.

We consider qualified applicants regardless of race, color, age, sex, religion, national origin, disability, veteran status, genetic information, or any other criteria protected by federal, state, or local law.
