The Safety Manager serves as the operational safety leader for the Kenai Peninsula Borough, the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District, and the Service Areas within the Borough. Reporting to the Risk Manager, this position is responsible for directing the safety program and overseeing the Maintenance Safety Specialist. The role acts as the primary liaison for regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance with OSHA, State of Alaska regulations, and local requirements while fostering a proactive safety culture across municipal and educational environments.
This position requires a dynamic day-to-day that blends strategic program development with hands-on fieldwork. You will conduct routine inspections across schools and facilities, lead investigations into workplace injuries and near misses, and manage complex asbestos compliance programs. The role also extends to emergency preparedness, where you will serve on the Incident Management Team to support response activities for events ranging from wildland fires to tsunamis. Additionally, you will chair the Employee Safety Committee and oversee security systems, ensuring a unified approach to health, safety, and loss prevention.
