The Shipboard Effectors Department is seeking an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to support Standard Missile products and subsystems. This role is designed to drive the design, development, and production support of critical defense systems. You will work within a fast-paced, team environment to solve complex engineering problems involving large structures, welded assemblies, component integration, and mechanisms.
In this position, you will collaborate across multiple disciplines, including Structural and Thermal analysis, Materials Engineering, Quality, Safety, and Supply Chain. You will lead teams with limited supervision, ensuring commitments for assigned schedules, financial goals, and technical objectives are met. The role requires a deep understanding of thermal, structural, dynamic, and reliability analysis to provide inputs that shape mechanical designs.
This is an onsite position located in Tucson, Arizona, supporting the 2nd shift (Monday – Friday, 3pm – 12am). The role may require up to 10% travel to government suppliers and other Raytheon facilities.

Four years of professional experience related to mechanical design and documentation in Aerospace & Defense industry. Advanced degree in Engineering discipline. Proficient in 3D CAD tools (modeling and drawing). Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5. Ability to work in teams or independently, flexible, demonstrates initiative. Experience in mechanical sub-systems packaging, materials, thermal, structural analysis, energetics principles, control systems, interconnect, airframe, or large assembly development. Willingness to support tasks as experience allows relative to both design development and production support. Proficient in CREO (modeling and drawing) and Windchill (PDM). Ability to travel to government and other facilities in support of program activities.
