The Powder Painter is a skilled position dedicated to applying powder coat paint to fabricated metal and structural surfaces. This role is essential for ensuring high-quality finishes and maintaining the integrity of Metalcraft of Mayville's manufacturing output. While the primary focus is on spray gun application, the role may also involve assisting in other production operations within the department.
This position demands a high level of attention to detail, a strong commitment to safety, and a genuine willingness to learn a trade. We are committed to training candidates who are eager to take on this challenge. Success in this role requires excellent housekeeping and organizational skills, as well as the ability to master automation on Gema CM40 and 41 systems and manage all controls of the paint booth.
You will begin your 1st shift (5:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday) by reading work orders and receiving instructions from management to determine specific work requirements. Your day involves inspecting metal products for surface errors that require repair before painting begins. You will then apply primers, finish coats, and various wet and powder coat finishes using brushes and spray guns, ensuring compliance with Materials Safety Data Sheets.
A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to mixing and matching colors, adjusting consistencies with oil, thinning, and dying additives, and identifying appropriate colors for new or replacement jobs. You will also be responsible for maintaining existing paint surfaces through precise tinting. Throughout the shift, you must operate compressors and spray equipment, keep the paint booth and ovens clean, and manage all production and quality documentation. Safety and compliance with corporate and plant standards are woven into every task, from the safe handling of hazardous materials to the proper disposal of paints and stains.
