About the Role

This position serves as a vital support pillar for sworn law enforcement personnel within the City of Alhambra. Under the administrative direction of the Chief of Police, the role performs a wide variety of civilian field and office law enforcement duties. The position acts as a bridge between the public and the department, handling everything from taking police reports and conducting traffic investigations to processing public information requests and managing vehicle enforcement.

The role is dynamic, requiring the incumbent to function effectively both in a standard office setting and in the field, often in tense or rapidly evolving circumstances. Day-to-day activities include investigating non-criminal auto accidents, monitoring city ordinances, serving subpoenas, and assisting in the identification and removal of abandoned vehicles. The position demands a balance of routine clerical precision and the ability to think and act quickly during emergency situations.

Hiring Process

The selection process is rigorous and designed to identify the most qualified candidates. Applicants must complete an online application prior to the final filing date. Applications are screened for qualifications and appropriate background, and only the most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process.

The examination consists of a single component: an Oral Interview, which accounts for 100% of the score. Successful candidates must achieve a minimum passing score in this component. Following the interview, candidates are required to pass a City-administered pre-employment physical. A thorough background investigation and a polygraph examination may also be required as part of the selection process. Candidates who do not pass these stages will be disqualified from the eligibility list.

Applicants with legal disabilities requiring special testing arrangements must contact the Human Resources Department at least five working days prior to the examination date. Candidates will be notified via email regarding test dates, times, and locations.
