Mariposa County's Public Works is seeking a dedicated Account Clerk to join the Fleet division. This is a 60% permanent part-time position available at either the entry-level (Account Clerk I) or journey-level (Account Clerk II) classification.
The Account Clerk I serves as the entry point into the Accounting Clerical series. Initially working under close supervision, you will learn County policies and procedures while performing a variety of accounting clerical duties. As you gain experience and achieve proficiency, you will be positioned to advance to the Account Clerk II level.
The Account Clerk II is the journey-level classification within this series. In this role, you will perform the full range of duties with a thorough knowledge of departmental procedures and policies. You will be expected to exercise independent judgment while handling moderately complex accounting clerical work.
You will be responsible for preparing, processing, and maintaining a variety of computerized and manual statistical, financial, and departmental records. Your daily tasks will include gathering statistical information for fiscal reports to the State and reconciling fiscal and statistical figures on contracts for various State offices.
Key responsibilities involve posting, calculating, and verifying repayment credits, as well as maintaining accurate records and files. You will gather, post, verify, and balance accounts and subsidiary ledgers, handling details on financial and statistical records. This includes collecting and sorting information related to A.F.D.C. overpayments from Eligibility Workers, Fraud Investigators, and clients.
You will also manage the receipting, recording, and balancing of cash, checks, money orders, and food stamps for repayment of overpayments. Additionally, you will issue food stamps, maintain transaction records, and prepare monthly statistical reports. The role requires compiling spreadsheets for State quarterly reports on Food Stamp Over Issuances and recoupments, as well as preparing County, State, and Federal subpoenas, records, forms, and reports.

Work is performed in a normal office environment. The role requires the ability to sit at a desk for long periods, with intermittent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching. You must be able to lift and move light weights and use office equipment, including a telephone and keyboard, to communicate and process data.
