The Salem Police Department (SPD) is the fourth-largest law enforcement agency in Oregon and a recognized leader in the Pacific Northwest for technology and training. The SPD operates out of a modern 104,000-square-foot facility featuring extensive amenities, including an indoor/outdoor breakroom and a dedicated employee gym. As a full-service agency, the department supports a diverse range of specialized units, including SWAT, the Bomb Squad, Mobile Response Team, Crisis Negotiations, Strategic Investigations, DEA Task Force, Detectives, Motorcycle and Mountain Bike Units, Crash Reconstruction, Computer Forensics, Behavioral Health, Peer Support, and Civil Investigations.
We are seeking outstanding candidates for the Out-of-State Lateral Police Officer position. This role is designed for experienced officers currently or recently employed outside of Oregon who bring at least three years of full-time service. As a Salem Police Officer, you will patrol assigned areas to enforce laws and ordinances, investigate citizen complaints and crime scenes, and preserve evidence. Your day-to-day responsibilities will also involve engaging with the public through community meetings and presenting safety information to households and property owners.
You will be equipped with state-of-the-art tools, including a fleet of advanced patrol cars, automated license plate readers, and the latest computer technology. The department provides all necessary equipment, from uniforms and weapons platforms to duty gear and mobile devices. This position offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic environment that values innovation and community service, supported by a robust infrastructure of special teams and units.
