In this position, you will serve as a vital link in our safety and security mission, performing general police duties to protect life and property within a railroad surface transportation environment. Your day will involve patrolling on foot and in police vehicles, responding to critical incidents ranging from derailments to hazardous material spills, and enforcing federal, state, and local laws. You will be the first responder to resolve disputes, neutralize hostilities, and assist individuals in need, ensuring that our passengers and employees feel safe as they travel.
All Amtrak positions require a pre-employment background check that includes prior employment verification, a criminal history check, and a pre-employment drug screen. Candidates who test positive for marijuana will be disqualified, regardless of any state or local statute legalizing its use. In accordance with DOT regulations, Amtrak is required to obtain prior drug and alcohol testing records for applicants intending to perform safety-sensitive duties.
To be considered, you must successfully pass all components of the police application process, including an online written examination, a physical agility test, an interview, a psychological examination, and an in-depth background investigation. New York State residents must also meet specific NY State Police agility standards.
