About the Newton Police Department

About the Role

Under the supervision of the Sergeant and Corporal, the Police Officer performs duties in the protection of life and property and the preservation of order in the City of Newton. This role is vital to enforcing all federal, State, and local laws in accordance with departmental rules and regulations. The work involves an element of personal danger and requires the ability to exercise initiative and discretion when faced with emergency conditions.

Your day-to-day responsibilities include patrolling streets in business districts and residential neighborhoods, investigating crimes and accidents, and providing public assistance. You will be required to work rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, and special events as assigned. This position offers a unique opportunity to serve the public directly, from directing traffic and issuing citations to giving advice on laws and ordinances to the community. You may also have the chance to give talks to schools and local organizations, handle drug-related cases, or serve as a Field Training Officer or K-9 Unit Officer.
