SML is an Alaska Native-Owned Village Corporation serving over 2,000 Native shareholders across four villages along the Yukon River. Born from the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971, the company was formed by the villages of Galena, Koyukuk, Nulato, and Kaltag uniting as "friends together" (Gana-A'Yoo) to drive economic development while honoring Athabascan traditions of sharing and long-term relationships.
Our mission is to provide solutions through an innovative, value-added approach that respects shareholders, the environment, and our cultural heritage. We empower our employees to follow their passions, prioritizing safety, well-being, and professional development because treating our team well is both the right thing to do and good business sense.
As a Plumber at the USCG Base Kodiak, you will be the backbone of our mechanical operations, responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of complex plumbing systems. Your work ensures the reliability of water, gas, oil, steam, sewage, fire-sprinkler, and refrigeration systems across residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
This role is dynamic and varied. You will move between office settings, shops, mechanical rooms, and housing units, often working in all types of inclement weather. You may find yourself in confined spaces or exposed to extreme heat and cold. Your day involves reviewing plans to determine layouts, inspecting materials against specifications, and executing precise installations of valves, fixtures, and piping. You will also test systems for leaks, certify backflow preventers, and maintain detailed logs of labor and materials. As a member of the Mechanical Shop Call Out Rotation, you will be ready to respond to urgent needs, ensuring continuous service for our customers.
Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance to access military installations. A reliable means of transportation is essential. As a condition of employment, you must pass a pre-employment drug screening, provide acceptable references, and clear a background check.
Pursuant to our collective bargaining agreement with Teamsters Local 959, employment in this unit requires membership in good standing with the Union or payment of an agency fee.
SML is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants for employment without regard to race, color, sex, national origin, religious beliefs, age, disability, U.S. veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristics. We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities.
