UNM Hospital is New Mexico's only Level 1 trauma center and the state's premier teaching hospital. The Women's Health Physical Therapy team operates within the WHC Physical Therapy department, working in close collaboration with Uro-gynecology providers. Our mission extends beyond clinical care; we are deeply embedded in the academic and research fabric of the institution. Team members frequently present continuing education programs, participate in Uro-gynecology fellows' interviews, and engage in research initiatives. Many of our therapists also serve as instructors for the UNM Physical Therapy program, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
This Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy position is based in an outpatient clinic, primarily focused on Women's Health and pelvic floor issues. While the core patient population includes women, the team also serves men experiencing pelvic floor pain and dysfunction. The role involves organizing and delivering medically prescribed physical therapy to restore function and prevent disability following disease, injury, or loss of a body part across all age groups, from neonates to geriatric patients.
The day-to-day involves evaluating patients to determine treatment goals and outlining therapy delivery through physical means such as exercise, massage, heat, sound, water, light, and electricity. You will consult with medical staff, educate patients and caregivers on specialized equipment and safety, and adapt therapy techniques to meet individual needs. A significant component of this role includes supervising and instructing physical therapy students and volunteers, as well as conducting training for medical and nursing personnel.
We welcome new graduates to the team. If selected, you will be supported by a strong mentorship program. While experience is preferred, the collaborative and educational environment is designed to help you thrive regardless of your career stage.
Candidates selected for this position will be integrated into a supportive team environment that values professional development. The department offers robust educational opportunities, including participation in in-services, meetings, and workshops to enhance professional growth.
UNM Hospital is committed to diversity and inclusion. We actively encourage applications from candidates who speak languages critical to our community, including English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo. We foster a proactive approach to patient safety, encouraging all team members to question current policies and processes to improve care outcomes. Join a team where you can make a meaningful impact on patient lives while contributing to the advancement of physical therapy education and research.
