This role ensures the integrity of patient results by performing proper specimen collection, confirming patient identification, and utilizing venipuncture and capillary techniques with precision. Technicians are responsible for labeling specimens accurately and processing them appropriately for subsequent testing, while also managing order information and making necessary corrections to ensure data accuracy.
Phlebotomy Support Tech I This entry-level position is designed for individuals beginning their journey in laboratory support. While no prior experience is required, candidates with 6 months of phlebotomy experience or one year of related experience are preferred. The role emphasizes strong analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to communicate effectively with management, and excellent customer service capabilities.
Phlebotomy Support Tech II This advanced level requires a minimum of 3 months of phlebotomy experience in a laboratory setting, with 6 months preferred. Tech II professionals must maintain active certification from a nationally recognized laboratory certifying agency. They are expected to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating proficiency with computer systems and maintaining high standards of communication.
Candidates must hold a High School Diploma or equivalent. For the Tech II role, certification as a Phlebotomy Technician or Medical Laboratory Assistant is mandatory. Certified Phlebotomists II must provide updated certification documentation within 30 days of their certificate's expiration, provided there is proof that renewal has been applied for. Tech I candidates do not require licensure at the time of application.
