As an Outpatient Phlebotomist, you will be the vital link between patients and diagnostic care, processing blood draws with a focus on patient safety, comfort, and positive communication. This role exists to ensure that laboratory tests provide physicians with the accurate information needed for diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases.
Your day will involve interacting professionally with patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff to deliver optimal care. You will perform phlebotomy for various settings including outpatient draw stations, nursing homes, assisted living centers, and healthcare clinics, serving patients of all ages from infants to adults. Beyond collection, you will process physician orders, handle special procedures like therapeutic phlebotomy and glucose tolerance testing, and manage specimen processing for reference labs. You will also utilize computer and handheld systems to ensure accurate patient identification, labeling, and data entry, while maintaining strict adherence to OSHA and TOSHA safety regulations.
