The Child At Risk Evaluation (CARE) Team at Children's Hospital of Michigan was created specifically for protecting children from maltreatment. As specially trained medical providers, our CARE team obtains additional critical details regarding a child's injury or condition via clinical consultation or case review. These assessments address developmental capabilities, the feasibility of injury, history details from caregivers, proximity of caregivers at the time of the incident, and the duration a child may have been left unsupervised.
With these comprehensive evaluations, we provide accurate diagnoses of child maltreatment while decreasing unnecessary reports to Children's Protective Services for injuries that are accidental or reasonably explained by a medical condition. The team also participates in local, state, and federal advocacy endeavors to ensure the continuation of quality service for patients and families. Elective clinical rotations with the CARE Team are available for medical students, residents, and pediatric emergency medicine fellows.
This full-time Pediatrician position serves as a specialized advocate within the CARE Team, focusing on the evaluation and protection of children from abuse. The role bridges clinical expertise with community engagement, requiring the provider to communicate medical findings to community partners, coordinate referrals to trauma-based therapy programs, and lead community education efforts regarding child abuse recognition and impact. The position also involves inpatient consults, chart reviews of discharged patients, outpatient follow-up of inpatient consults, and providing court testimony when necessary.
Since 1886, the Children's Hospital of Michigan has been dedicated to providing the highest quality of care to children and adolescents in a caring, efficient, and family-centered environment. A proud member of the Detroit Medical Center (DMC), it is the first and largest children's hospital in the state. This 228-bed facility holds an international reputation in pediatric medicine, surgery, and research, training more pediatricians than any other facility in Michigan. The hospital engages in groundbreaking research that has long shaped the science of pediatric medicine and is ranked as one of America's best pediatric hospitals by U.S. News & World Report and Parent Magazine.
Employment practices at Children's Hospital of Michigan will not be influenced or affected by an applicant's or employee's race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age, disability, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran status, or any other legally protected status.
