The Division of Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking Pediatric Intensivists to join our faculty in Billings, Montana. This role is anchored at St. Vincent's Hospital, where the 5-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) serves a large geographic region spanning Billings, Montana, and surrounding states. The unit is staffed by Board Certified critical care pediatricians and works in tandem with an adjoining 11-bed pediatric ward managed by hospitalists and community pediatricians.
As part of this academic appointment, the role extends beyond clinical service to include scholarly work in education, investigation, administration, and advocacy. The Department of Pediatrics offers a robust faculty development and mentoring program designed to foster success in translational or basic research, quality improvement, and educational excellence.
The Pediatric Intensivist will provide comprehensive care within the PICU, managing life-sustaining therapies including mechanical ventilation and hemodynamic monitoring. Responsibilities include covering pediatric ward patients during weekday hours and sharing in unrestricted nighttime call for intensive care patients. The position also offers unique opportunities to travel to Salt Lake City for 2–3 weeks of clinical time at Primary Children's Hospital (PCH), with additional services potentially delivered via telemedicine.
Selected candidates will receive a faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics on either the Clinical or Tenure track, commensurate with experience. This is a collaborative environment where physicians can engage in high-level patient care while contributing to the academic mission of the University of Utah School of Medicine.
Once physicians arrive for an onsite interview, they often find themselves captivated by the beauty of Montana. The region boasts over 300 days of sunshine annually and features 12 different ski hills, offering an unparalleled lifestyle for outdoor enthusiasts. Billings provides easy access to a variety of amenities, from fabulous restaurants to quintessential mountain hiking trails.
The city is a family-friendly community with a praiseworthy public school system, alongside options for Montessori and parochial education. It features a traveler-friendly international airport and is recognized as a safe city with minimal traffic. Montana's landscape offers amazing views and adventure that are incomparable to anywhere else in the U.S., making it a wonderful place to live and work.
