Phoenix Children's, a division of the largest freestanding children's health systems in the nation, is actively expanding its Advanced Heart Failure - Cardiac Transplant Team. The program performs an average of 12-15 heart transplants annually and supports a comprehensive mechanical circulatory support program offering the full range of pediatric and adult devices. The team consists of three physician members, five NP transplant coordinators, a dedicated VAD coordinator, and interdisciplinary specialists in nutrition, pharmacy, social work, and child psychology.
The Division of Cardiology hosts a robust fellowship training program in general pediatric cardiology, alongside subspecialty fellowships in pediatric cardiac critical care, advanced cardiac imaging, and interventional cardiac catheterization. Inpatient pediatric cardiac care is centered at Phoenix Children's Hospital, featuring a 48-bed CV intensive care unit and transition care unit, while adult congenital care is provided at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center. Ambulatory services for transplant and heart failure are located at the Center for Heart Care - Thomas Campus.
Phoenix Children's is part of a broader academic ecosystem, facilitating clinical faculty appointments at the University of Arizona College of Medicine (Phoenix and Tucson), Creighton University School of Medicine, and Mayo Clinic School of Medicine - Scottsdale. Additional research collaborations exist with the Translational Genomics Research Institute (tGen) and the Arizona State University Department of Bioengineering.
Located in the Phoenix metropolitan area, the 5th largest in the United States, the hospital serves a pediatric population of approximately 1 million in Maricopa County alone. Phoenix is consistently ranked among the best places to live in the nation, boasting over 300 sunny days per year and convenient access to both ocean and mountain attractions.
