Phoenix Children's Hospital is one of the nation's largest freestanding children's health systems, serving a pediatric population of approximately 1 million in Maricopa County alone. Our Division of Cardiology is a robust academic program with over 1,200 employed and affiliated physicians, including 24 cardiologists, 13 cardiac intensivists, and 3 cardiovascular surgeons. We operate a 48-bed CV intensive care unit and transition care unit, providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care.
The Advanced Heart Failure - Cardiac Transplant Team is a dynamic, interdisciplinary unit performing 12-15 heart transplants annually. The team includes three physician members, five NP transplant coordinators, a dedicated VAD coordinator, and support from nutrition, pharmacy, social work, and child psychology. We also support a robust mechanical circulatory support program offering the full range of pediatric and adult devices.
Our academic mission is facilitated through appointments at the University of Arizona College of Medicine (Phoenix and Tucson), Creighton University School of Medicine, and Mayo Clinic School of Medicine - Scottsdale. We maintain active research collaborations with the Translational Genomics Research Institute (tGen) and Arizona State University's Department of Bioengineering. The division hosts a general pediatric cardiology fellowship program as well as subspecialty fellowships in cardiac critical care, advanced imaging, and interventional catheterization.
Phoenix is the 5th largest metropolitan area in the United States, consistently ranked as one of the best places to live. The city boasts over 300 sunny days per year and offers convenient access to both ocean and mountain attractions.
We are seeking up to two full-time faculty members to join our Advanced Heart Failure - Cardiac Transplant Team at the level of Instructor, Assistant, or Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Child Health. This role is designed for a physician who is passionate about clinical excellence, academic rigor, and the mission of providing hope, healing, and the best health care for children and their families.
In this position, you will provide direct patient care for heart failure and transplant patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including urgent and emergent care. You will serve as a key member of an interdisciplinary team, collaborating closely with surgery, advanced practice providers, and allied health professionals to deliver family-centered care. A significant component of the role involves the provision of workplace-based and didactic teaching to fellows, residents, medical students, and nurses, ensuring the next generation of pediatric cardiologists is well-trained.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate a rigorous academic focus, preferably in clinical or translational research, though basic science opportunities are available. You will be expected to establish and achieve annual physician goals, support the division's research endeavors, and contribute to the programmatic growth of the team. The role also includes representing Phoenix Children's in the medical and business communities and supporting the Division Chief in liaison activities.
Interested candidates should submit a curriculum vitae and a cover letter of introduction to David Blaha, Physician Talent Acquisition Partner, at dblaha@phoenixchildrens.com.
