The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is a unique combination of education, research, and clinical programs that encourages and supports teamwork and diversity. As a collaborative health care organization, UAMS champions its mission to improve patient care and the lives of Arkansans.
The Patient Services Associate (PSA) serves as a specifically trained member of the unit-based care team within the Behavioral Health Service Line (BHSL) General Adult Inpatient Unit. Located in the Psychiatric Research Institute building on the main UAMS campus, this role provides essential clerical and patient care support. Working under the direct supervision of the Clinical Services Manager and the direction of the RN, the PSA bridges administrative needs with patient support, ensuring the smooth operation of the nursing unit.
In this day-to-day capacity, the PSA acts as the receptionist for the unit, assisting with the processing of medical records for patient admissions and discharges. The role involves actively communicating with the nursing team to obtain patient reports, relay patient requests or complaints, and carry out delegated plans of care using a multidisciplinary approach. The PSA is a vital resource for patients and visitors, offering solutions to problems and notifying appropriate staff of issues requiring prompt intervention.
