The Patient Care Technician serves as a vital clinical support partner, working alongside the patient care team to deliver compassionate, high-quality care. This role is designed to assist licensed professionals by performing essential tasks and procedures, ensuring patients receive the attention they need while maintaining a safe and supportive environment. In addition to direct patient care, the technician may also assume the responsibilities of a Health Unit Coordinator, acting as a central hub for unit operations.
Your day will be defined by a dynamic blend of hands-on patient support and collaborative teamwork. You will prioritize and deliver basic patient care, ranging from toileting and bathing to ambulation and comfort measures, always responding to patient and family requests with excellent customer service. You will be the eyes and ears of the team, promptly reporting changes in patient condition and securing qualified assistance when needed.
Depending on the unit, you may perform telemetry duties, monitoring patients and addressing their immediate care needs. You will collaborate closely with Registered Nurses (RNs) and the interdisciplinary team to implement care plans and ensure optimal outcomes. You might also manage unit logistics by answering phones, transcribing physician orders, and maintaining supplies, ensuring the unit runs smoothly. Throughout your shift, you will foster a safe environment by strictly adhering to safety policies and taking appropriate action during emergencies.
