This position serves as a vital member of the dialysis healthcare team, dedicated to providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients. Working under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, the role ensures compliance with organization policies and regulations set by federal, state, and corporate agencies. The core mission involves the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines while maintaining a safe, clean, and sterile working environment.
The role is deeply committed to the organization's Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities. Team members actively participate in process improvements designed to enhance patient satisfaction and help patients achieve their quality enhancement goals. This includes supporting patients through their first four weeks of dialysis in the Transitional Care Unit, coordinating care across disciplines, and assisting patients in understanding home dialysis options and benefits.
A typical day involves a blend of direct patient care, technical operation, and environmental stewardship. You will welcome patients, assess their well-being, and evaluate vascular access for patency before initiating treatment. Throughout the session, you will monitor the patient's response to therapy, manage machine safety alarms, and perform necessary interventions as directed by physician orders or state law.
Beyond clinical duties, the role requires meticulous attention to detail in record-keeping, ensuring all treatment data, vital signs, and lab specimens are accurately documented and entered into clinical applications. You will also be responsible for cleaning and disinfecting machines and treatment areas between patients to maintain infection control standards. The position may involve travel between assigned facilities and community locations, as well as participation in regional or corporate meetings.
Candidates must hold a high school diploma or G.E.D. and must meet all Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the mandated timeline. Successful completion of the organization's dialysis training program and CPR certification is required for continued employment. As a condition of employment, candidates are required to take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test; however, failing this test does not automatically preclude employment, as the company will consider reasonable accommodations.
