This position serves as a vital member of the dialysis healthcare team, dedicated to providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients. Working under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, the role ensures compliance with organizational policies and regulations set by federal, state, and corporate agencies. The core mission involves the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines while maintaining a safe, clean, and supportive environment for patient care.
The role is deeply rooted in the organization's commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities. Team members actively participate in process improvements designed to enhance patient satisfaction and help patients achieve their quality enhancement goals. This includes supporting patients through their first four weeks of dialysis in the Transitional Care Unit, coordinating care across disciplines, and assisting patients in understanding home dialysis options and treatment modalities.
A typical day involves a blend of direct patient interaction, technical operation, and rigorous documentation. You will welcome patients, assess their well-being, and evaluate vascular access before initiating dialysis treatments according to prescribed orders. Throughout the session, you will monitor patient responses, manage intradialytic problems, and ensure machine safety alarms are active.
Beyond clinical duties, the role requires maintaining environmental integrity by cleaning and disinfecting machines and treatment areas between patients. You will also handle laboratory specimen collection, manage inventory, and ensure accurate documentation of all treatment parameters and patient vitals. The position may involve travel between assigned facilities and community locations, as well as participation in regional or corporate meetings.
Candidates must hold a high school diploma or G.E.D. and must meet state or national certification requirements approved by the Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS) within the mandated timeline. All appropriate state licensure, education, and training are required. Continued employment is contingent upon the successful completion of the organization's dialysis training program and CPR certification.
As a condition of employment, candidates are required to take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test. Please note that failing this test does not automatically preclude employment; the company will consider reasonable accommodations where applicable. The organization maintains a drug-free workplace in accordance with federal and state laws.
