The Correctional Managed Care team is dedicated to addressing the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD). Our mission is to provide compassionate, high-quality care to individuals in correctional settings, ensuring their well-being is prioritized despite the unique challenges of the environment.
This position serves as a vital support system within the healthcare delivery model, providing basic technical assistance and supportive patient care to meet the specific needs of individual patients throughout assigned areas. You will work directly within the confines of a prison, jail, or juvenile detention center, adapting clinical skills to a secure environment while maintaining the highest standards of patient dignity and safety.
The role requires a unique blend of clinical competence and situational awareness. You will be responsible for collecting and documenting critical patient data, performing point-of-care testing, and assisting with daily activities of care, including personal hygiene, feeding, and mobility support. A significant aspect of the job involves navigating the complexities of a correctional setting, ensuring patient safety through adherence to specific security protocols, managing restraints when necessary, and maintaining strict confidentiality of all patient records.
Working in a correctional facility presents distinct occupational hazards. Team members may be exposed to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, and hazardous medications. The environment also includes the potential for interaction with disoriented or combative patients. Consequently, a security clearance is required for all candidates, and pre-employment drug testing is mandatory to ensure the safety and integrity of the facility.
