This position serves as a vital support pillar within the patient care team, providing basic technical assistance and compassionate care to meet the unique needs of individuals across assigned hospital areas. The role is designed to bridge the gap between clinical observation and daily patient well-being, ensuring that every patient receives attentive support from admission through discharge.
In this capacity, you will be the eyes and ears of the nursing team, collecting and documenting critical data such as vital signs, intake and output, and pulse oximetry. Your day-to-day responsibilities include performing venipuncture for blood samples, acquiring 12-lead EKGs, and managing point-of-care testing. Beyond clinical tasks, you will play a hands-on role in maintaining patient dignity and comfort by assisting with personal hygiene, wound care, feeding, and mobility.
You will also be responsible for maintaining a safe and sterile environment, adhering to strict infection control protocols, and ensuring the privacy of all patient information. Whether caring for patients in a general ward or a correctional environment, your focus remains on delivering high-quality, safe care while supporting the broader medical team.
Candidates must possess a recognized certification or program completion in nursing assistance, medical assisting, medical corpsman, EMT, or UTMB Hospital Aide Training. Alternatively, applicants with two years of direct patient care experience or those currently enrolled in a nursing school with completed clinical concepts are encouraged to apply. A valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required at the time of hire.
