The Patient Care Technician plays a vital role in the hospital's mission to serve the community through equitable healthcare delivery. Working under the direct supervision of a nurse, this position focuses on meeting the developmental needs of patients while performing routine and specialized care procedures. The role is integral to ensuring patient safety and supporting positive surgical and clinical outcomes.
A significant portion of the day involves transporting patients via stretcher, bed, or wheelchair and escorting them to holding rooms. Technicians are the eyes and ears on the floor, responsible for obtaining vital signs, verifying patient information, and identifying abnormal findings—such as irregular vitals, Accucheck results, lab values, EKGs, or CXR results—and immediately reporting them to nursing staff. The role also includes assisting patients with daily activities like changing and dressing, as well as removing personal belongings such as jewelry, dentures, and contact lenses. Technicians are expected to orient patients and their families to the hospital environment, ensuring a welcoming experience from the moment they arrive.
This position operates on a shift-rotating schedule. The hospital reserves the right to modify employee schedules as needed to meet operational demands.
