The Newborn Hearing Screener plays a critical role in ensuring early detection of hearing loss by conducting hearing screens on all applicable newborns within the hospital setting. This position exists to uphold the highest standards of patient care and safety while adhering to strict state requirements under the California Newborn Hearing Screening Program (NHSP) and IHSS corporate guidelines.
In this role, you will be the first point of contact for families during the screening process, requiring you to maintain a clean, orderly work area and ensure the best possible testing conditions for infants—such as testing while they are sleeping in quiet, dimly lit environments. You will coordinate closely with medical staff, including nurses, to explain basic test procedures and ensure seamless integration into the hospital's daily workflow.
This position is performed in a standard hospital environment where staff may be exposed to human waste, blood, and other body secretions. Employees must be prepared to follow well-defined precautions to protect against communicable or infectious diseases. The role involves light physical activity, including standing, walking, and pushing screening equipment, with intermittent lifting of up to 25 pounds.
Candidates must be available to work weekends and holidays and must comply with all hospital fire and safety requirements. To ensure a safe environment for patients and staff, all employees are required to provide proof of specific immunizations and lab work at their own expense, including seasonal influenza shots, TB testing, MMR, Varicella, Tdap, and Hepatitis B records.
While certification from the National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management (NCHAM) Newborn Hearing Screening Training Curriculum is required for the role, it is not mandatory for initial hiring. However, a Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR card from the American Heart Association is required. All employees must sign a non-compete/confidentiality agreement and strictly comply with HIPAA regulations.
We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, religion, gender, or other protected characteristics.
