About Burton Center
Burton Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing essential services to individuals with disabilities and special needs. Founded in 1971, our mission is to develop and discover unlimited potential in adults with disabilities through coaching, training, community advocacy, and hands-on support. Over the last five decades, we have expanded our reach to serve over 500 individuals across Abbeville, Edgefield, Greenwood, Lexington, McCormick, Ware Shoals, and Saluda counties. Our staff of 325 delivers Day Programs, Residential Services, and Employment Placement Programs free of charge to those who meet specific eligibility criteria set by the South Carolina Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
About the Position
We are seeking a creative, energetic, and caring Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join our dynamic team as part of the Community Training Home (CTH) Program. This is a part-time day shift role, working 16–24 hours per week, with shifts scheduled between 7:45 AM and 7:45 PM on every other Saturday and Sunday.
In this pivotal role, you will help create the best quality of life for up to four adults living in a community home. Your day-to-day responsibilities will focus on person-centered support, encouraging independence, and fostering community engagement. You will implement effective training programs and provide direct care, including assistance with self-help skills, personal hygiene, toileting, bathing, and feeding. You will also prepare and demonstrate how to cook light meals based on designated meal plans, follow behavioral support plans, and facilitate planned outings, hobbies, and activities.
To support your work, you will be provided with a Chromebook to track individual objectives and complete progress reports using our online system, Therap. We are committed to your success and will provide thorough in-person and on-the-job training. This preparation will equip you to drive Burton Center vehicles, operate wheelchair lifts safely, utilize therapeutic options, and obtain Basic Life Support and MedTech certifications.

Important Note on Onboarding: All newly hired Burton Center staff must complete a mandatory in-person orientation, MedTech training, and all assigned online training prior to beginning on-the-job training. Orientation is held once a month over a three-day period (9 AM–5 PM). Tentative dates for 2026 include:

- April 21st–23rd and 30th
- May 19th–21st and 28th
- June 2nd–4th and 18th
- July 14th–16th and 23rd
- August 11th–13th and 20th
- September 8th–10th and 17th
- October 6th–8th and 15th
- November 17th–19th and 25th
- December 1st–3rd and 22nd
