The Penn Hills School District, located in the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh, is dedicated to providing comprehensive educational support. This role is part of the intensive support team serving 9th through 12th-grade students, working under the guidance of Case Manager R. Cash and the Director of Special Education.
As a Paraprofessional in an intensive support classroom, you will play a vital role in increasing the quality of instruction for students with special needs. You will perform instructional and non-instructional tasks under the supervision of certified professionals, assisting students with activities of daily living, personal care, and behavioral management. The position requires flexibility to work across various environments, including the classroom, cafeteria, and community-based outings.
Your day will involve facilitating student safety during bus arrivals and departures, preparing instructional materials, and supporting students with assistive technology. You will also assist with feeding, maintain confidentiality regarding student records, and participate in parent and IEP conferences as requested. Success in this role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize student needs according to IEP goals, and the capacity to work independently while adhering to established policies.
To apply for this position, candidates must possess updated clearances, including Act 151 Child Abuse, Act 34 Criminal Clearance, and Act 114 FBI clearances. A negative TB result is required before work can begin. The district values candidates with one to two years of experience working with children with special needs, as well as training in crisis intervention, CPR, and First Aid.
