As a Paraeducator for Special Education (Learning Disability), you will provide essential instructional support under the supervision of a special education teacher. This role is designed to support students with varying high-incidence disabilities, including specific learning disabilities, speech-language disabilities, and other health impairments, within inclusion or resource settings.
Your day will involve reinforcing material and skills with individual students or small groups while assisting with their social-emotional development. You will help students build positive behaviors, navigate social situations, and adhere to behavioral plans to foster a productive learning environment. Safety and supervision are paramount; you will actively monitor students during all school activities, including emergency drills, assemblies, field trips, and lunch, reporting any concerns regarding student well-being immediately.
Beyond direct student support, you will help maintain a quiet and orderly classroom, communicate effectively with teachers regarding student progress or special needs, and collaborate as a flexible team member to support the overall objectives of the position. You will serve as a positive role model, interacting professionally and non-judgmentally with a diverse cross-section of students, staff, and parents.
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent and pass a satisfactory criminal background check. Certification in CPR/First Aid is required (certification is provided).
