Founded in 1854 by the Rev. Dr. William Passavant, Glade Run Lutheran Services has evolved over 170 years to meet the changing needs of children, adults, and families throughout Western Pennsylvania and beyond. Last year alone, the organization served over 7,000 individuals through impactful, innovative services in school, home, and community-based settings.
Glade Run operates as a Sanctuary® certified organization, using the Sanctuary Model as a blueprint for clinical and organizational change. This approach promotes safety and recovery from adversity by actively creating a trauma-informed community. The culture is built on core commitments including Nonviolence, Emotional Intelligence, Social Learning, Democracy, Open Communication, Social Responsibility, and Growth and Change. This philosophy applies equally to the clients served and the staff who provide treatment, ensuring a supportive and respectful environment for all.
The Outpatient Therapist in the Adventures Program offers a unique opportunity to blend traditional clinical expertise with nature-based healing. While the role includes standard outpatient counseling—such as individual, family, and group therapy for issues ranging from anxiety and depression to marital conflict and trauma—it is distinguished by its integration into Glade Run Adventures.
This program utilizes a naturalistic setting where plants, animals (including horses), and the outdoor environment become active tools in therapeutic interventions. As a therapist, you will work within this setting, with the possibility of also supporting the licensed outpatient clinic in Zelienople or providing telehealth services as needed. The role is designed for clinicians who are interested in experiential therapy modalities, such as equine-assisted interventions, animal-assisted therapy, and horticultural therapy. You will be expected to apply these methods safely and effectively, whether working independently or as a co-facilitator, while remaining flexible to adjust experiences to maintain client confidentiality and safety in changing weather conditions.
Candidates who meet the qualifications for this role may be eligible for a new hire incentive bonus: licensed clinicians can receive up to $1,000, while non-licensed clinicians may receive up to $500. The application process involves submitting credentials for verification, including PA State Police, PA Child Abuse History, and FBI clearances. Selected candidates will undergo an orientation to the agency's policies and the specific Adventures Program, followed by regular supervisory sessions with a clinical supervisor and psychiatrist to ensure continuity of care and professional development.
Glade Run is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are committed to fostering a culture where shared governance, open communication, and social responsibility are paramount. As a CARF Three-Year Accredited agency, we maintain high standards in mental health services, including outpatient treatment and psychosocial rehabilitation. We offer a supportive environment that values the growth and change of both our clients and our staff, recognizing that trauma is pervasive and that healing requires a comprehensive, community-based approach.
