The Outpatient RN CAP 1 position serves as an entry-level designation within the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). As a vital member of the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) healthcare team, you will provide and coordinate clinically competent care for an assigned group of patients. This role involves the full nursing process—assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation—while collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to enhance patient care outcomes and facility operations.
In this capacity, you will participate in decision-making, teaching, and quality improvement activities. You will direct the daily provision of safe and effective hemodialysis therapy, performing systematic data collection and analysis before, during, and after treatments. Your responsibilities include adjusting treatment plans as indicated, administering medications, and ensuring patients are informed about transplant and treatment modality options. Additionally, you will serve as a resource for the healthcare team, assisting in the training and orientation of new staff.
This position is based in a healthcare facility characterized by air temperature control and moderate noise levels. The role involves direct patient care, which may require heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation. You will frequently stand for prolonged periods and may occasionally need to move equipment weighing up to 200 lbs. with assistance or lift chemical and water solutions up to 30 lbs. The environment may expose you to infectious and contagious diseases. Day-to-day duties also include desk work, computer documentation, and interaction with patients, facility staff, and physicians. Occasional travel to training sites or other facilities may be required.
This role is designed to be a stepping stone for professional development. Successful completion of all Fresenius Kidney Care education and training requirements, along with meeting specific experience thresholds, will qualify you for Team Leader or designated Nurse in Charge oversight of Patient Care Technicians, LPNs, LVNs, and RNs. Advancement within the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP) is a core expectation for those committed to growing their nursing career in nephrology.
