The Operations & Business Development Associate internship is a 6-week immersive experience designed to provide hands-on exposure to operational execution, capture management, proposal development, and federal growth strategies. This program is tailored for students currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, offering a unique opportunity to shadow senior leadership and actively contribute to the Air Force and broader Department of Defense (DoD) market.
Upon completion, interns will be prepared to transition into full-time roles supporting federal operations and growth initiatives, functioning similarly to senior program managers or directors. The program focuses on bridging the gap between academic learning and the complex realities of federal contract operations.
Week 1: Introduction to Maximus Participants will develop a deep understanding of Maximus' history, values, federal customer base, and lines of business. This week covers service offerings, internal functional lanes, and key points of contact essential for supporting federal contract operations.
Week 2: Operations & Federal Business Overview Interns will learn how Maximus structures and executes federal contracts. The focus includes operational delivery models, governance structures, customer engagement approaches, and mission-focused support across the DoD and other federal agencies.
Week 3: Business Development Fundamentals This module introduces the federal business development lifecycle. Interns will identify and evaluate key stakeholders, systems, workflows, and processes used to qualify and position new business opportunities in support of strategic growth efforts.
Week 4: Capture & Proposal Support Participants will gain insight into capture management and proposal development. The curriculum evaluates program objectives, customer requirements, solution approaches, and the roles involved across the capture and proposal lifecycle for current and future efforts.
Week 5: Operational Planning & Growth Alignment Interns will apply operational planning principles, staffing models, and risk considerations to support new business pursuits and recompetes. The goal is to ensure alignment between proposed solutions and executable delivery capabilities.
Week 6: Strategic Growth & Transition Planning The final week focuses on how operational performance and customer relationships inform long-term growth strategies. Interns will develop a transition plan and a capstone brief demonstrating their readiness to support operations and business development efforts.
