As a Special Education Aide, you will play a vital role in supporting the teacher and ensuring the best possible learning experience for students with special needs. Your primary mission is to foster a safe, secure, and confidential environment where every student can thrive academically and socially.
This position focuses on providing one-on-one support, assisting with small groups, or helping within the classroom under the teacher's direction. You will be the hands-on partner in daily learning, helping students complete academic tasks in reading, writing, math, and life skills. Beyond academics, you will be instrumental in managing student behavior by implementing behavior plans and utilizing Crisis Intervention and Prevention (CPI) training to de-escalate situations and maintain a positive atmosphere.
Your day will involve close interaction with students, assisting with personal needs such as hygiene, toileting, and feeding. You will also be responsible for collecting data on student progress and behavior, communicating effectively with staff and families, and participating in professional development to continuously improve your support strategies.
This role takes place in a school setting where the noise level can range from moderate to loud. The position requires a high level of physical agility and strength, as you will frequently be moving, bending, stooping, and lifting to assist students with mobility equipment, transfers, and toileting. You must be prepared to work in a potentially demanding and stressful environment while maintaining composure and patience.
