The Oncology Nurse Navigator (ONN) serves as a dedicated clinical guide, educator, advocate, and coordinator for patients and their families throughout the entire cancer continuum. From the moment of an abnormal screening or diagnosis through treatment, survivorship, and end-of-life care, this role is designed to help individuals overcome healthcare system barriers and facilitate timely access to high-quality cancer care.
This position emphasizes patient-centered care and multidisciplinary collaboration. As the primary point of contact, the ONN ensures continuity of support, assessing medical, psychosocial, financial, logistical, and cultural needs to identify and resolve obstacles to care. The role involves coordinating diagnostic testing, specialist consultations, and supportive services while providing disease-specific education to promote shared decision-making and informed consent.
