This full-time position serves as a Nutrition Educator within the Office of Family Nutrition Services (OFNS), supporting the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Supplemental Food Program in the South Central Region. Working under the supervision of a Dietitian Manager, you will join a winning team dedicated to making South Dakotans healthier and safer.
In this role, you will provide nutrition support and education to high-risk participants, helping them develop client-centered plans to meet their nutritional needs. You will counsel participants in consultation with a Registered Dietitian, conduct health assessments, and offer breastfeeding education and support. The position involves delivering nutrition education in community settings, linking clients to essential health and social resources, and collaborating with community partners to enhance referrals and explore innovative opportunities.
The South Dakota Department of Health values workplace flexibility, including the ability to work from home. Remote work is considered a privilege and is subject to review, with most positions offering the opportunity to work remotely up to three days a week to help balance home and work lives. However, this role requires travel to satellite sites, and overnight stays may be necessary for service delivery, trainings, or meetings. Work hours may extend beyond the standard 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. day, and Saturdays may be required. The role also involves physical tasks such as lifting to perform anthropometric measurements of infants and children.
