About the Role
The Head Custodian at Westside Middle School Academy serves as the primary leader for the school's custodial operations, ensuring a sanitary, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position goes beyond routine cleaning; it involves overseeing the preparation of facilities for daily classroom activities and special events, while managing a team of custodians to maintain high standards of facility care.
As the night shift lead, you will be the first to arrive and the last to leave, setting the stage for the school day and securing the building for the night. Your day involves directing and participating in comprehensive cleaning of classrooms, offices, gyms, restrooms, and cafeterias. You will also manage seasonal maintenance tasks, such as summer floor stripping and waxing, and handle immediate safety concerns like facility damage or alarms. A key part of your role is collaboration; you will meet daily with the Building Principal to review activities, support district maintenance staff, and ensure all assignments are completed safely and on time.
This role requires a balance of hands-on work and leadership. You will supervise the team, manage inventory, maintain accurate attendance records, and ensure all staff are trained on safety protocols, including blood-borne pathogens and proper chemical handling. Whether operating heavy machinery, climbing ladders to change light bulbs, or managing snow removal, you will be the guardian of the school's physical infrastructure.
