About the Role
The Night Custodian at Norwalk High School plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for the school community. Reporting directly to the Principal, Director of Facilities, and Business Manager, this position ensures the building and grounds are secure and ready for the next day's activities. The role goes beyond routine cleaning; it involves active participation in school safety, event support, and groundskeeping, serving as a behind-the-scenes partner to students, teachers, and visitors.
Day in the Life
Your shift begins and ends with securing the building to ensure safety and cleanliness. Throughout the night, you will perform comprehensive cleaning duties across classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, and offices, adhering to strict district standards. This includes sweeping, mopping, waxing floors, and maintaining carpets and furniture. You will also handle specialized tasks such as graffiti removal, window washing, and light bulb replacement.
Beyond interior maintenance, the role extends to the outdoors. You will manage groundskeeping duties, including clearing debris, and handle seasonal weather challenges by clearing snow, spreading sand, and applying ice-melting chemicals. During school vacations, you may assist with general repairs and deep cleaning. Additionally, you will support the school community by setting up meeting rooms, assisting with special events, and managing deliveries and waste removal.

Requirements
