The NCDOT Transportation Inspector position is designed for professionals who possess roadway and structure inspection experience, strong documentation skills, and a drive to earn and maintain industry certifications. This role serves as a critical on-site link between the project team, the agency, and the contractor, ensuring all construction activities align with plans, contracts, specifications, and codes.
Depending on your experience level, you will progress from entry-level inspection duties to leading project inspections and guiding junior technicians. You will act as a key point of contact for field observations, utilizing client electronic project management systems to track materials and test results. The role requires exercising independent judgment within delegated authority while escalating issues appropriately, all while maintaining professional communication with stakeholders and the traveling public.
Candidates selected for this role must successfully complete a fingerprint-based criminal history background check, a DMV driving record check, and reference and work history verifications prior to employment. A valid driver's license with a good driving record is required, along with the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and navigate construction sites with uneven terrain.
