Kimley-Horn's Charlotte office is expanding, and the Energy & Natural Gas team is seeking a Mechanical or Civil Engineer in Training (EI/EIT) to join our growing ranks. We are a multidisciplinary group dedicated to delivering complex energy and natural gas projects across multiple markets and geographies. Our culture is built on the belief that people, clients, and employees are at the forefront of who we are. We prioritize achieving client goals while fostering an environment where passionate, hardworking, and proactive employees can flourish. This commitment to quality and our unique approach to business has led to our placement on the Fortune "100 Best Companies to Work" list for 19 consecutive years.
This position is ideal for an engineer eager to work on large-scale, real-world infrastructure projects while building technical depth, project ownership, and cross-discipline experience. You will collaborate with a diverse team of engineers and designers to deliver projects ranging from major pipeline systems and transmission/distribution networks to metering stations, remote valve sites, and power generation facilities.
You will be involved throughout the entire project lifecycle, from early design through construction documentation, with opportunities to take on increasing responsibility over time. Your day-to-day will include performing engineering design, calculations, and analyses for complex natural gas projects, developing construction drawings, and applying critical industry codes such as 49 CFR Part 192 and ASME B31.8. Beyond technical execution, you will assist with project planning, coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders, and participate in client meetings to support quality control efforts. This role offers hands-on involvement in the projects that keep communities and industries running.
