CACI is seeking an experienced Space Vehicle Flight Software Systems Engineer to support NASA's Commercial Spacecraft initiatives. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safety and success of human-rated missions, including Commercial Crew Vehicles for transporting astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS), the Human Landing System for lunar surface operations, and the U.S. Deorbit Vehicle for the safe retirement of the ISS.
The position offers a unique opportunity to work within a highly stimulating and dynamic environment at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. You will provide insight and oversight into the full lifecycle of flight software, from concept evaluation and requirements analysis to architecture assessment, code review, and verification testing. Special emphasis is placed on software safety, process adherence, and certification for flight readiness.
This role requires close collaboration with Commercial Spacecraft prime contractors and NASA engineering teams. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated team player with strong communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical ideas and managing relationships across diverse programs. You will share a passion for the Nation's Space Program and the excitement of developing future human-rated space vehicles.
In this position, you will serve as a critical interface between NASA and prime contractors, guiding the development and certification of flight software for complex vehicle systems. Your work will span multiple domains, including crew systems, avionics, command and data handling, environmental control and life support (ECLSS), power, propulsion, thermal, guidance, navigation, and control, as well as communications and docking.
Day-to-day responsibilities involve reviewing flight software requirements, design, and integration; performing systems engineering tasks such as hazard analysis; and detecting risks within the software to guide contractors through corrective actions. You will also oversee the integration of flight software in test facilities and provide inputs for Certification of Flight Readiness (COFR) recommendations. Additionally, you may provide mission support by monitoring flight operations and troubleshooting anomalies during commercial spacecraft flights from the Mission Evaluation Room (MER).
At CACI, we place character and innovation at the center of everything we do. As a valued team member, you will join a high-performing group dedicated to our customer's missions and driven by a higher purpose: ensuring the safety of our nation.
We foster an environment of trust where every employee's unique contributions are valued. You will have the autonomy to take the time you need through our unique flexible time off benefit and access to robust learning resources to help you achieve your ambitions. Together, we advance our nation's most critical missions, build on a lengthy track record of business success, and find opportunities to break new ground in your career and our legacy.
