This position serves as a critical gatekeeper for M&T Bank's mortgage portfolio, responsible for underwriting conventional, FHA, and VA residential loans. The role exists to ensure every loan meets the rigorous standards of M&T Bank and secondary market investors, guaranteeing sound credit quality and saleability while strictly adhering to Federal SAFE Act registration requirements.
You will act as the central hub for decision-making, collaborating daily with internal teams—including Account Executives, Loan Officers, and Processors—as well as external partners like Realtors and Mortgage Brokers. Your day involves interpreting Automated Underwriting System (AUS) findings, assessing credit and collateral risks, and resolving post-closing issues to expedite loan closings. This role requires a proactive approach to staying current on evolving investor guidelines and regulatory changes to maintain the bank's reputation for reliability.
