About the Role
This position is responsible for underwriting mortgage loans, including government-backed loans, to determine acceptability against M&T Bank and secondary market investor standards. The core mission is to ensure saleability and sound credit quality while strictly adhering to Federal registration requirements under the SAFE Act.
You will serve as a critical liaison between internal teams and external stakeholders. The role involves frequent day-to-day communication with Account Executives, Loan Officers, brokers, processors, Realtors, and mortgage brokers to expedite the decision process and loan closings. Success in this role requires a thorough understanding of investor guidelines, the ability to interpret Automated Underwriting System (AUS) findings (DU and LP), and the initiative to stay current on changes in investor and M&T guidelines.
In addition to processing new loans, you will be responsible for re-underwriting and verifying a monthly sampling of loans to ensure documentation accuracy. You will also work to resolve post-closing issues and assist management in clearing conditions to facilitate timely closings.

We are dedicated to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $28.60 - $47.66 Hourly (USD), with the specific compensation determined by the successful candidate's unique combination of knowledge, skills, and experience.
