This position is dedicated to underwriting mortgage loans, including government-backed options, to ensure they meet M&T Bank's standards and the requirements of secondary market investors. The role is critical for maintaining sound credit quality and ensuring the saleability of loans while adhering to Federal registration standards under the SAFE Act.
You will serve as a central point of contact, collaborating daily with internal teams such as Account Executives, Loan Officers, and Processors, as well as external partners like Realtors and Mortgage Brokers. Your work involves frequent communication to expedite decision-making and loan closings, requiring a deep understanding of investor guidelines and the ability to interpret Automated Underwriting System (AUS) findings like DU and LP.
Beyond initial underwriting, you will be responsible for re-underwriting and verifying a monthly sampling of loans to ensure documentation accuracy. You will also work to resolve post-closing issues and assist management in clearing conditions to facilitate timely closings. The role demands a proactive approach to staying current on changes in investor and M&T guidelines, as well as a commitment to maintaining strict internal control standards and compliance with regulatory audits.
