This position is dedicated to originating mortgage applications specifically within low-to-moderate income neighborhoods and for low-to-moderate income borrowers. The role plays a vital part in fulfilling the bank's Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) obligations within M&T community bank regions. You will serve as a bridge between the bank and the community, ensuring that mortgage opportunities are accessible to those who need them most while adhering to all federal registration requirements under the SAFE Act.
You will work independently to cultivate new mortgage business, often traveling to prospective customers' homes or business locations to meet them where they are. A significant portion of your day involves marketing the bank's proprietary CRA products, such as "Get Started," in collaboration with the Retail Bank Network and external partners like real estate firms and housing agencies. You will also promote agency-related products (FHA, VA, etc.) tailored to the specific needs of low-to-moderate income borrowers.
Your work involves deep engagement with potential clients to understand their financial landscapes, analyzing income, assets, debts, and credit data to determine loan eligibility. You will have the authority to issue pre-qualification statements and negotiate loan terms, acting as a trusted advisor on the advantages and disadvantages of various financial products. Beyond individual client interactions, you will represent the bank in the community, potentially presenting seminars to the general public and real estate agents to drive business and community outreach.
Candidates for this role must be prepared for extensive travel with limited supervision and a high volume of external contacts. The position requires maintaining active relationships with local housing agencies, groups specializing in CRA outreach, and internal teams to effectively meet federal regulatory responsibilities.
