About the Role

As a Mortgage Loan Consultant at First State Bank, you will serve as the primary point of contact for clients navigating the complex landscape of residential lending. This commission-based position is designed for a proactive professional who thrives on building relationships and guiding customers through the mortgage approval process. Your mission is to ensure every client leaves the application process with a clear understanding of their options, proper disclosures, and a tailored loan strategy that ensures their success.

You will act as both a trusted advisor and a business developer, splitting your time between a retail branch office and a mortgage loan call center. The role requires you to originate a wide variety of mortgage, real estate, and construction loans, including reverse mortgages, while maintaining the bank's image and adhering to strict financial standards. Success in this role means not only meeting your budget and portfolio goals but also fostering a strong referral network within the community, particularly among realtors and builders.

Day in the Life

Your day will be a dynamic mix of client interaction, strategic networking, and technical compliance. You will meet with prospects to determine the best loan products and terms, customizing solutions for their unique financial situations. This involves counseling borrowers, collecting necessary documentation, and verifying credit history and income information.

Beyond the branch, you will regularly engage in business development outside the office, attending community activities and building relationships with real estate professionals to drive new business. You will also be responsible for structuring loan applications, monitoring the collection and preparation of documentation, and ensuring all files meet established lending guidelines. Throughout this process, you will maintain a courteous and professional demeanor with both customers and colleagues, ensuring a seamless experience from initial contact to final approval.

Hiring Process & Application

Candidates for this position must possess a valid National Mortgage Licensing number and a valid Michigan Driver's License with a good driving record. Those transitioning from independent broker offices must already be fully registered and approved with the State of Michigan's Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation. New lenders will be required to complete a registration process involving fingerprinting and a criminal background check in accordance with state regulations.
