About the Role
As a Mortgage Loan Officer at Navy Federal Credit Union, you will serve as a trusted advisor to our members, guiding them through the complexities of first mortgage and equity loan products. Your primary mission is to build and maintain lasting personal relationships, taking applications and steering members from their initial inquiry through to the successful closing of their loan.
You will act as the bridge between members and the lending process, providing detailed information on financing alternatives and clarifying regulatory requirements. Beyond processing, you will cultivate referral relationships with realtors, builders, and other centers of influence to expand our community reach. This role requires a unique blend of analytical precision and interpersonal warmth, ensuring that every member feels supported throughout their home financing journey.
Day in the Life
Your day involves conducting face-to-face, mail, and telephone interviews to assess member qualifications and determine the best financing options. You will analyze loan files for potential concerns, advise on approved conditions, and ensure all documentation meets strict federal, NCUA, and secondary market guidelines. A key part of your schedule includes maintaining active contact with members, realtors, and sellers to resolve processing issues and answer inquiries promptly.
To serve our members' needs effectively, you will be available during scheduled evening hours after your standard workday and on designated days off, including weekends. You will also leverage opportunities for outside marketing through financial presentations, local events, and trade shows to engage with potential members.
Hiring Process
Candidates selected for this role will be required to register with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) prior to assuming duties, which includes fingerprinting and background checks. The interview process will assess your ability to communicate complex legal documents, present professionally to groups, and navigate automated systems efficiently.
