The Correctional Managed Care team at UTMB Health is dedicated to addressing the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD). This role is vital to ensuring that individuals in correctional facilities receive comprehensive mental health evaluation and therapeutic intervention.
You will work within the confines of a prison, jail, or juvenile detention center to provide critical mental health services. Operating under the supervision of a Psychologist, Mental Health Manager, or Program Director, you will serve as a key provider of care for patients identified with mental health needs. Your day-to-day work involves conducting interviews, performing evaluations, and delivering diagnoses. You will be responsible for providing both individual and group psychotherapy, as well as crisis intervention. Additionally, you will develop, implement, and review Individual Treatment Plans, while assisting in the training of medical and mental health staff. The role also requires active participation in Quality Improvement programs and maintaining clear communication with supervisors and attending psychiatric providers regarding patient status.
Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field, along with licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Professional Counselor, Psychological Associate, or Social Worker. Please note that security clearance and pre-employment drug testing are required for this position due to the work environment.
